I for one was hoping to be there since I’ve only played there a couple of times but family duty calls and I’ll be at a wedding in Chicago rocking out to a DJ in heels instead of throwing some plastic. So on that note I won’t be writing a wrap up post (you know because I won’t be there) nor will I be able to post any pictures. But looks like we have a volunteer to pitch in in my absence (thanks, you rock). But I will still be getting scores up (hopefully within a couple of days – but no promises).

My big question is will Justin DeVico repeat his ace from last month and bring it to the tourney (not to put any pressure on him or anything)? I guess time will tell. Rumor on the street is that it was on the new layout for hole 12. I for one am rooting for him. Oh and curious where the standings are so far for the GMPS? Well, wonder no more. Check out the Leader Board here.

Don’t forget to pre-reg. The first 50 AM and Intermediate players to sign up will receive 2 discs custom stamped tournament disc(driver and putter). Choices will be Z Avenger SS or Z Nuke and a Soft Magnet/Soft Challenger. Rec and Junior divisions will get their choice of either a Magnet or Challenger. Plus it really makes it easier on the thankless job of being a TD so be a gem and pre-reg.

Black Falls VI

Players Meeting at 9 am Cherry Hill. First round at Cherry Hill 9:30
Second round at Black Falls after lunch.
Lunch will not be provided. Camping on site.

Pro Open $45
All other Pro divisions $40
Am and Intermediate $30
Rec $15

Cash payout to Pro’s and prizes for all other divisions

Note: All individuals involved in the Marshall Street incident last season will not be allowed to register for this tournament.

How will you ever fill your time? Hmmm….Here’s an idea come to Waterbury and pitch in for a work day and then play two rounds of discgolf. Sounds like fun to me. We’ll get Center Chains looking all shiny and new with some practice for Sap Bucket to boot. That’s what we call a win-win.

Rang Duce Doubles Deuce
Saturday May 12th (start 8-9)
Center Chains, Waterbury
12ish – 1st round singles; 2nd round high/low doubles
15$ - 5$ to payout; 10$ towards Wrightsville baskets

I mean if we are going to play a tourney we’ll need to put some work in. I went the other day when it was pretty soggy and minus the wet and mud there were clearly a few places that needed some love. Like the bridge going from hole 9 to 10 that nearly took my ankle out. And really, who wants to get injured on the course? Some people may like to fall down but I prefer to save my injuries for 2,000 pound horses. So come out for a work day, getting the tees squared away, cleaning trash, limbs, running 1200 feet of rope for OBs and all that fun usual work day stuff. And then play a couple of rounds. Yup that sounds like fun.

And in case the fear of rain is making you hesitant. Looks like the weather will be nice – only 10% chance of rain and in the low 70s. Don’t believe me? Well, look for yourself.

So don’t get left out in the cold and register NOW.

Fair warning TD Justin Kaulius (aka Circle Three) is shooting for the fastest turn around ever, so you are fair warned. Also, he seems pretty bent on starting on time (I know discgolf starting on time. That’d be a first). So don’t forget to set your alarm clock – players meeting is 9:45am.

While we’re talking about the Sap Bucket I’d be remiss not to mention the Rang Duce Doubles Duce on Saturday May 12th. I mean if we are going to play a tourney we’ll need to put some work in. I was at Center Chains this week for May Day Doubles and there’s certainly plenty to do. So come for a work day, getting the tees squared away, cleaning trash, limbs and all that fun usual work day stuff. Then at noon we’ll gather for some fun doubles. It’ll be $15 per person, $5 payout and $10 towards Wrightsville baskets. Two rounds – one singles and second high/low doubles. Yup that sounds like fun.

And just in case you are counting down the seconds to the second tourney of the GMPS here’s a little gadget to help you out:

Sap Bucket Open X

Pro Open, Pro Grandmasters, Pro Women $40
Advanced Men, Advanced Women, Advanced Masters, Intermediate Men, Intermediate Women $30
Recreational and Junior $25

Int. Women, Recs and Jrs. play White/White
Everyone else plays Blue/Blue

There may be trophies, there may not be trophies
It’ll be NEFA and GMDGC points

Not too shabby. A big shout out to the TD James B. and the Pinnacle crew. I’ve gone down a couple times over the past month and it was clear the work they put in to get it ready for the tourney. Thank You. Oh and while I’m thanking – let’s not forget to thank our GMPS Sponsors, Fiddlehead Brewing Company and Three Penny Tap Room. As well as, our website sponsor, Base Camp Outfitters. You guys rock!

Ok, now on to the tourney itself. Weather was, well Vermont weather. Pretty overcast and windy for the first round which made a number of holes quite interesting, and pretty chilly for most people. Second round, the sun came out and wind died down a bit (but still came into play on a bunch of holes). But all and all was a great day! I’ll leave it up to Circle Three to do any sort of assessment on where the divisions are lining up based on the first tourney (you know if he feels so inclined). More to come with complete numbers, standings and all that fun jazz later this week so make sure to check back but in the mean time here’s a little visual on how the day lined up.

UPDATE: Check out the scores for Pinnacle Spring Run-Off here and the GMPS Standings here.

Personally, I learned a couple of things. One – I need a flick; and two – staying out late the night before a tourney does not do great things for my game. Who knew? But regardless, of performance it was certainly a great kick off to the GMPS. Seemed like a bunch of peeps came down on Friday to get some practice in. I for one, am not sure the round on Friday actually improved my game but was certainly fun times. I also want to give a shout out to the Bachnein folks, who are getting some gear in for the ladies. Don’t get me wrong, as much as I really want another T-shirt that goes down to my knees, it’ll be great to have something I’ll actually wear in public.

You can check out pictures from the day on the GMDGC Facebook Page (and don’t forget to like it while you’re there). Oh and couple folks mentioned that I only seem to post photos of a handful of people. So here’s the deal – if you play on my card, then I take pictures of you. If you are on a different card, well feel free to takes some and pass them along to me. Otherwise, I may snap a few during breaks if I feel so inclined (you get what you pay for). And as always, if you’d prefer I not post a pic, not take any at all. No problem, I’ll put the camera down/delete any photos you don’t like. Because really, who wants pics out there on the interweb that you don’t like? Want something posted on the website? Sure I can do that. Shoot me an email. Can’t promise I’ll post it the way you want or the day of (I try to get things up within a week) but I’ll do my best.

For the few of us headed to Hyzer tomorrow, see you there! I’ll probably be bringing my icepack and lots of caffeinated drinks but Hyzer is one course not to miss. I mean it wouldn’t be discgolf if you weren’t driving through a few states, to play a few sleep deprived rounds, right?

We’ve talked and talked and talked about those highly paid, explosive, bag kicking Pro Open Vermont disc golfers. But, we haven’t spoken much about the Am 1 division. It seems like its high time to do so.
